Dudley’s Glue for all model making.

Welcome to Dudley’s Blog and Dudley’s Hub. I’m not saying my pick of the glue is the best it’s the ones I like and work for me, I use 5 driffient tipe of glue.

  • Plascet big part - Tamiya Cement - Light green, Dark Green and white.

  • Plascet Small parts - Revell Cement.

  • Plascet Clear parts - PVA

  • Resin Big parts. - Super Glue

  • Resin Small parts. - Super Glue with brush

  • Resin Clear parts. - BSI Super Gold - Black lid

I have made over 500+ model’s in my 4 years of building and built 5 resin model’s so not the best to share this but I think there is not a lot of glue I have tryed what is out there cheap or not, This blog is mostly to share what I think and which glue I belive is the best for what and what worked for me,

PLASTIC MODELS

I’ve build more plastic models then resin for one it is easyer to get and cheaper and if you mess up your safe and plastc models are easy to get.

I started my scale model building with a starter kit and that came with Revell Contacta and I also used PVA glue what my dad had, It worked and I used it for about 50 model’s and for a year I was also using basic tool’s in that time frame, after moving and moved into a shed I started to get the other glue and tools, The first glue I got was Tamiya Extra Thin Cement - Dark Green lid, I have been making friends and most of them told me its best to have other glue like in the Tamiya cement is 3 types of lids like Light Green, Dark Green and White, Light Green is what I use more and it’s a quick set, White is more runny and Dark green is what I use when I want to make sprue glue and it’s also good if you need more time to move stuff, The Sprue glue is good for removing lines like on a plane on the top, Just have to wait for it to dry and then sand it down, When it’s done it will be good and paint will not show the line, That’s the most I use the sprue glue for sometimes I use it to glue stuff onto the model but it’s not that often,

I have uses others like Deluxe Materials, I have used the Cement, Glaze I found with them both after a year and some month’s the glue started to go, The Glaze was great at the start but after a year it started to go runny and very hard to use when you came to use it you had to hold it down hard and very long it was not a fast set glue anyway but in time it seem’s to go longer the cement seem to lose it sticky and not very good to use after a year. Cost more then Tamiya.

I have also used AK Interactive Cement Standard, I only had it for about 5 month’s and it seemed to lose stickiness but they do have other tip’s of the glue I might of been unlucky and had a bad one, But when it was working it was great better then Tamiya and it was fast to set but not to fast it also came with a brush like tamiya, The cost of AK Cement is the same as Tamiya about if you are lucky and look around.

If you are old school like my Dad who is using Poly Cement and I have also tried it, It is good, but it’s a aqueeze glue no bruse in it or a runny, The one’s I tried was good after about 7 months and my dad didn’t make a lot of mess with it.

I have also used Revell Contacta it’s good to have around if you need something to glue in a hard place the bad thing is you can’t replace the glue and I feel it’s like tamiya can last a long time.

Like I said I have used most of the plastic model glue and always come back to tamiya I just feel and seem’s like the Tamiya never loses stickiness the bad thing is the smell on some of them and the bruse is not long for when it close to ending, and the cost is ok not to bad for what your getting.

RESIN MODELS

Please remember I have only started building Resin model’s in 2023 and still learning.

I have used about 3 tipes of glue for resin models, I before to use Gorilla superglue the one with out brush and one with a brush, I use the blue lid more then the one with the brush it’s not nice to know it’s there, I use Gorilla glue because it is easy to get and seem is to last longer then cheap super glue, like I said before this is what I think if you want to leave your thoughts please do.

I have used BSI (Bob Smith) glue it is bast on super glue but seems not to leave any white on the clear and on the model, This glue cost more and seems hard to get, After chatting and asking around I found getting the black lid is better the sad thing is it is very hard to get but it is a good all round glue, If it was a easy to get glue it will be my go to super glue but it is not, But the nice thing is it is good to use and you don’t need a lot of it.

CLEAR PARTS

I’ve used PVA glue, Wood Glue, Gorilla clear BSI glue(Bob Smith).

PVA is good for plasic only it does not work trust me it seems like it just run’s off resin. After 2 year’s I found it start’s to loose stickness and starts to be hard work, and it seems to be long time to dry and a bit more messy but I learned to use a toothpick and ear buds to use and but small brobs on and if needed use ear buds to clean up, The Wood glue is good too I before and use Gorilla wood glue only because when I was shopping for the glue I found them all in one place. Both PVA and wood glue is easy to get and find and cheap too.

The other what is good for both resin and plasic is BSI (Bob Smith) like i said before it’s just ashame it hard to get, But I do think it’s a good glue to get it’s must get one I belife.

I have also used Gorilla Clear glue don’t get it, For one it don’t work, and when your done and it dry it’s not clear, It might because it is plasic or resin and not glass but on the adert on the bottle it says good for anything, But It was a try sadly it’s not cheap it’s more but I know it will still work as super glue so I will use it for that if I run out.

Thank you for
