DUDLEY’S HUB UNPLUGGING 2025: ARE TRABITIONAL HOBBIES THE ANTIDOTE TO DIGITAL OVERLOAD?

There wasn’t just one single person who started/made the internet but Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn and Sir Tim Berners- Lee plugged the World Wide Web in 1989. Once again there wans’t just one single person who started/made the moble phone (Cell phone) Martin Cooper and in 1972–73 he built the first mobile cell phone and made the first cell phone call.
There isn’t a single person or date for the first internet at home because the concept and technology evolved over time. The internet was initially for academics and engineers, but by the 1990s, dial-up services and commercial internet service providers (ISPs) like AOL made it accessible to the public, with the first home connections becoming common during that decade.
Alexander Graham Bell was the patent of the telephone and as an apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically. The IBM Simon was the released to the public in 1994 the device was for collaboration between IBM and BellSouth Cellular Corp, The designed was by Frank J. Canova Jr., and featured on touchscreen, email, calendar, and fax capabilities in addition to its mobile phone functions.
The Nokia 9000 Communicator, was the first mobile phone with built-in internet access, It was launched in 1996, Though it offered slow speeds and limited functionality like WAP websites and email. The first commercial Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone, which allows voice calls over the internet, was the VocalTec Internet Phone created byVocalTec Communications in 1995.
I grew up watching and been using the computers and phones going from basic to how they are now, And there is AI and more now. Yes the internet and screen time can be good but it’s now a bad thing it’s out of hand, Everything is now on screen even on the internet, Some meetings are on screen, If you need help where do you go most of the time it to a screen so having time away is harder now then before.
My life and business is all on the internet and on screen, But I can still run my shop off the internet and off the screen but it started on there. But everything is there, So I understand how easy and hard it is to not go to the screen to work. and get time a way, I set myself 4 hours a day away from the screen I am building models yes I am recoreding but I am looking aways from the screen more.
There are lots of hobbys out there even walking, Dog walking and running. But the hands-on hobby like craft, model building or just simple drawing, Photography is also there too.
I can tell you Scale model building helped a lot for my mental health and even helped cut my screen time down.
In my background I have done art, photography and scale modes. But for this I am going to want helped more and that was scale model building.
THE GREAT OLD WAY OF DOING HOBBYS ARE BACK
So with the right hobby it has to be something you find fun and happy to spend hour’s doing and something what will help you to think of other things and for me it was Scale model Building, Walking and taking photo’s made me over think alot of stuff, and scale model was a great way to just think about the model.
After you picked the right hobby and learned how to do it you just have to have fun and do what you want to do like myself I build models the way I do and try and not worry about what others think, I have more fun building then playing video game and I grew up doing that.
I found out after months and week of looking around the internet, There are lots of people think unplugging is harder now then it was, and it’s bad for adults and children of the UK there is 80% of children looking on the screen then doing anything fun outside or a hobby. The sad thing is more time you spend on the screen or devices was more like to get anxiety or be sad and lonely. The 16-34 age range is mostly at risk because of the reliance of the digital technology I think the the people who have grown up from 1991 might be the people like me ok with spending time away and happy to and not find it to hard to and find it easyer to move a way but I think sadly 2000 people will find it hard alot of stuff started to run on the computer I remembr it big I had to start doing a lot on the computer and lots of new stuff starting to come in to class and it was all screens even the blackboards gone and it was a big screen, I remember treachers learning to use them and not knowing to power them up or laptop didn’t work it right.
SHOULD WE HELP PUSH BACK WITH THE HOBBY AND MAKE TIME AWAYS FORM THE SCREENS
Sadly the digital age is not going anywhere and it’s going to get stronger in the years to come, But if we as people set time and hours to one side to do any types of hobby’s we can help the mental health with in you and try and keep the numbers down, Like I say the digital age will not slow down but we can, I know and understand we are now in a age where everthing goes fast and has to be done fast, I am one of them. But doing a hobby will also help you slow down.
I know by past and not doing no hobbys and not spending time for myself put me to try and end my life and I still kept working too. There is 1 in 13 who will attempt suicide and the numbers are still criming to try and stop that why not start a hobby, because 39% of people and I am one of them say the hobbies make them happy, and 43% say there mental health is better and I can also say that myself too, and I can also say I am one of the 40% who finds it great to get a way from the screen’s.
IS IT A GOOD TIME TO PICK UP A HOBBY
Well picking a hobby up will help you a lots and it’s never to late to do so, But please remember to pick one you are happy to do for years and hours I never thought I will pick up Scale model building.
Thank you for your time and reading this blog hope it help’s
