DUDLEY’S WAY OF DOING SCALE MODEL – DECALS/TOOL

I’m Dudley’s Scale Model Car’s I am on youtube and did a video on this if you want to watch please click here.

I’m also going by you all know a bit about the scale model building, and you will have lots of tools and know what to do and have your own way and just what to see other peoples ways and that is why you are here.

In the kit you should have instructions in every kit for the paint and decals it most of the time at the end of the instructions or in some of them it on a other paper in color, The decals have numbers and in the instruction will also have numbers but most of the time you don’t need to see the numbers, You can most of the time know by just looking, I never go by the numbers I go by what it is, Most of the times you can just know.

TOOL'S I STARTED WITH.

You might already know I started building models start of 2021 and I didn’t have a lot of tool, I had nothing to start with, I used tools what my mum a used before she passed and my dads tools what he had.

Scissors, Water, Small box, Heat gun, Tooth pick, Ear bud.

You can use a hobby knife but it can be a bit hard to cut aroung the decals, Using scissors are alot more easier and using theres big ones are not but at the time it’s the only ones I had but what I did is cut them then got the hobby knife and just cut them closer, Get some water and get a small box then put the decals in let them soak them get the ear bud in the water and put the damp ear bud where I what the decals, lay them out with the toothpick out of the water and the decal on my hand and hold the model in the same hand, Then with the toothpick but it on the model then to but it into the right place use the toothpick to but it right, Using the other side of the airbud and stofly but the airbud on the decal and get the water off, after doing all of that I used the heat gun, You can use a airdry if you have that but I was lucky my mum had it.

TOOL'S I UPGRADED TO

In 2023 I got better tools for doing decals, Got the same tool’s what I started with but smaller and better to use and move the decals.

Scissors, Water, Small box, Decal solution, Tweezers,  Toothpick, earbuds, Heat gun

I do the same stuff and way with the decals but just with better tool’s, The scissors I started to use is now smaller, and I still use the box and water, Using tweezers to take the decals out of the water but first Decal solution, Use Micro set with a earbud do it the same way but not using water, then with the tweezers to move the decals in the right place, and the same with a new earbud then when the water is all gone get the Micro Sol then let it air dry then using the heat gun to get the decals to go smooth and get the lines come of the decals.

TOOL'S I 3D PRINTED/UPGRADED TO

In 2025 I 3D printed the hold for my decal solution, and I also got the dusting brush and a clay sculpting tools and I got a toothpick Stainless Steel.

Scissors, Water, Small box, Decal solution, Tweezers,  Metle toothpick, Dusting brush, clay sculpting, Airbud, Heat gun

Everything is all the same, But the new tools is the metel toothpick to move the decals into the right place and the other end to pat down the decals but if that don’t work I will use the clay sculpting to move, But before all of that, I used the dusting brush.
