BUILDING DREAM: DUDLEY’S PATHTO INSPIRATION.
Welcome to Dudley’s Blog. First thing first I don’t really know how to say this without sounding like I’m trying to make my life look hard or sad. This part of the blog is linked to my book on Amazon called Rags to Something. It’s about how I got to Dudley’s Hub and Dudley’s Hub HQ the growing brand and the thing I thought I lost years ago.
This blog is the background story that isn’t in the book. It’s the behind‑the‑scenes of me, my shed, my life, and the photos that go with it.
HOW DID DUDLEY'S HUB GET BUILT
If you’ve been following me on YouTube as Dudley’s Scale Model Car’s, you’ll know the journey:
2022–2023 — I was building in a shed
2023–2024 — I moved into a garage
2025 — I finally built Dudley’s Hub HQ
I know I sometimes make it sound like I just “got the HQ,” but it wasn’t like that at all. The HQ is the place I grew toward. It’s the long‑term place I live and work in now, but I wouldn’t have got here without the other places and everything I learned along the way.
The base of the shed is new and outside the old area, but most of the wood inside is second‑hand. The back panels are second‑hand. Even the tables are second‑hand and custom‑built for the shed. The power was done by someone who knows what they’re doing but everything else was built by me and my dad.
My school life wasn’t that bad, and home life was okay too. I was a gamer back then. I tried for the army, but my body didn’t allow it, so I went to college for a few years. They told me I couldn’t get any better — that I was at my limit.
After college I started a YouTube channel called Unlucky Dudley. I was a gamer from then until 2016, working nights while my mum got very poorly. As a family we had to look after her. It got harder over time, and I moved from gaming to vlogging and photography. I renamed everything to Dudley’s Vlogs on YouTube and Dudley’s Eye on social media.
By 2018 my name was getting out there. But middle of that year I went away, came back, and tried to end my life. Then in 2019 I tried to hold onto what I had left — and then my mum passed away.
I didn’t grieve for her because I thought my depression was more important. A few months later I lost my job. I had to sell things because I was gambling and drinking.
Then 2020 lockdown came — and it forced me to stop gambling and drinking. I’m now 10 years in sustained recovery.
End of 2021 I found scale model building. That changed everything. I built Dudley’s Scale Model Car’s and grew it through 2022. We moved to a new house and I kept building and growing on social media, showing my work from having nothing to slowly building something.
Middle of 2024 I started Dudley’s Handmade Shop on eBay and sold cards. Then start of 2025 I got Dudley’s Hub HQ, the shed, and built the website Dudley’s Hub five months into 2025. I added my shop to the website and kept building models.
By then, Dudley’s Scale Model Car’s was at 900 subscribers — something I never thought I’d reach in just five years. I’ve been building models for five years now, and this is when I started putting more into them — making them fit me, my style, and Dudley’s Hub.
In time, and by reading my book, you’ll see how I found the name and the meaning behind Dudley’s Hub. I rebuilt it into a shed that’s now a growing brand. Dudley’s Scale Model Car’s is still growing — it’s at 977 subscribers — and the support is crazy.
The last five years got me here. The next four years will be the next big blog. And every year, you can read my story on Amazon.
